Blind Poet Seeks Free Clipart

Filed under: Museum, Technology — scarface @ 3:41 am

Pounding across the windswept plains of dusty Troy, chariots careen around a savage battlefield as spears fly and swords flash. Gods rage in the sky and on the ground as heroes clash and weapons crash. Amidst it all flows the stuff of greatness. Though recorded by a blind poet, the word-picture of the battles at Troy is enough to drive the image home. Modern times call for modern measures, however, and in the digital world, free clipart has replaced blind poets hands down. The world has its needs for great and powerful words, it is true, but the Internet and amateur and professional worlds of print have come crawling through the dust on their knees, begging a new medium.

Clip art used to be clipped from one medium and stuck to another as part of layout design. This clipart caught on quick and spread faster than a Greek army inside the walls of Troy. Free clipart became the new epidemic, infecting designers high and low with its accessibility, utility, and quirkiness.

Just like how the Greeks and Trojans fought back and forth before any decisive victories were won, clip art has passed between no-cost and paid services in an attempt to maximize the quality and availability of both royalty-protected and free graphics. The battlefield is strewn with small, unknown clip art distributors and large image conglomerates alike; some died, some were bought, some faded away, but others found their niche and made it work. Free clipart libraries began to find their home and expand across the internet. Like a wave of armored chariots, the new medium pounded down against the old technology—

And the blind poet patted himself on the back as he watched it all go by. What started three or four thousand years ago with sweeping epics has now spread to three or four thousand websites (or more!) that sweep across the whole range of free clipart, stock photos, and paid image libraries. Humanity is fascinated with imagination and grandiose mental image-making. While the technology of the oral tradition allowed Homer, the blind-but-great Greek poet, to recount dangerous deeds of derring-do by memorizing and reciting, the modern world now allows the average desktop publisher to recount those deeds with a few searches and clicks. And perhaps crested helmets and burnished breastplates aren’t the subject of a given clipart need; still, free clip art covers everything from holidays to handbags and school to superstition. Once the mouth to the pen, now the mouse to the printer: the great skill of capturing and captivating the attention of the audience comes by creating the image. Just think: careening chariots and windswept plains caught your mind’s eye. Imagine how free clipart can do the same.

How to Fix Xbox 360 Freezing Up

Before we start, I would suggest you to check a professional Xbox 360 repair guide with videos and picture. A good Xbox 360 freezing repair guide will show you everything step by step, which can really help you through this process.

Steps to fix Xbox 360 freezing:

1. Take your case apart. Using a fine tip poker, poke the grayed out holes (they are the latches holding it together) and at the back poke the tiny rectangle holes. Take the faceplate off and move the latch up on the DVD drive up as you remove it. Unscrew the metal case that is just under the plastic case.

2. Get the DVD drive out and unplug the cables.

3. Get the fan off and the motherboard out.

4. Flip the motherboard over, and, using the poker, pry off the X-clamp under the heat sink by popping up the corners. The heat sink is the big silver box with slits in it.

5. Unscrew the heat sink to reveal the CPU and GPU.

6. Clean the GPU and CPU (critical step to stopping Xbox 360 freezing)

7. Apply arctic silver thermal compound (you can find a $1 tube of this at any computer store) generously over the GPU.

8. Now Let it set for 15 minutes.

9. Put 2 nylon washers on each of the screws from the heat sink. Put the screws back in the motherboard. Now, with the screws pushing up through the motherboard, add 2 more nylon washers to the screws.

10. Put the heat sink on top of the screws, pushing them down a little, then screw them up. Make sure they are tight. This is will really help with Xbox 360 freezing.

11. Now put everything back together. Turn it on.

There, you should now have fixed your Xbox 360 freezing.

If you need help with pictures or videos, again, I suggest you check out an Xbox 360 freezing repair guide.

Xbox 360 freezing repair guides are fairly cheap, around $25, and they save you over $100 from sending it into Microsoft. Plus, Xbox 360 freezing repair can take up to 6 weeks if you send it in to Microsoft.

Whatever method you choose to fix your Xbox, don’t do anything. Xbox 360 freezing will not go away on its own.

Best of luck fixing your Xbox 360 freezing problem!

A Brief History of Vintage Tin Robot Manufacturers

Tin toy robots became very popular after the end of World War II. Most of these toys were produced in Japan with several companies leading the charge. I will focus on two of the more well known companies here and discuss how their histories are intertwined.

Horikawa The Horikawa Company was one of the most active makers of battery operated toys in Japan. The company sold hundreds of different tin toys such as rockets, space stations and many different robots. Many collectors of vintage tin robots are familiar with the Horikawa name and their “SH” logo, but many people don’t realize that Horikawa was actually a wholesaler, not the actual manufacturer.
