If you plan your stay in Salzburg this summer, make sure you plan a visit to the museum of Salzburg. Full of some of the best paintings in the world, Salzburg Museum will be a special exhibition entitled “modern artists rediscovered”, which examined the work of Austrian painters between 1910 and 1945. The collection includes works from the collection Gerhard Schneider and entire generation of German and Austrian painters who were marginalized before, during and after the Nazi regime in Germany.

This exhibition will take place at the Kunsthalle “, a group that has been appropriated for each year to three very special art collections. Some of which are devoted to artists who have a special relationship in Salzburg, others address specific issues related to the history of art or history, with “artists rediscovered” applies to both. The museum is located in the middle of Salzburg, and is easily accessible from your Salzburg hotel or apartment.

The modern artists rediscovered deals with the question of the advent of the Nazis and what it has on the art world. It is fair to say that in January 1933, Germany and Austria are some dark pages in history and one of the most depressing of art. The “number one enemy” of the Nazi regime quickly crystallized: Judaism, and all those who have a different political viewpoint. In the painting, traffic generally criticised as “entartet” - degenerate - was expressionism, because of its non-language forms.

This exhibition presents some 100 works of artists who have been ostracized, persecuted and oppressed by the socialist regime. Unfortunately, even after 1945, most of them the attention they have been deprived for so long, because the interest is limited to names that made famous by the dictatorship.

The German collector Gerhard Schneider was among the first to give attention to this omission. The selection is displayed with a view to commemorate the year 2008 and aims to shed light on the immense wealth and artistic quality that the National Socialists tried to destroy it completely and who have remained unknown so far .

If you stay in Salzburg a central accommodation, another thing not to be missed while on vacation is a visit to the famous Glockenspiel, “located below tower on the west side of the Neue Residenz. The pieces are mostly songs daily at 7 and 11 pm and 6 am, for the enjoyment of residents and tourists. The Glockenspiel is playing music since 1704, now about 40 rooms, of which 16 are attributed to Johann Michael Haydn. The music pieces of Mozart, father and son, are adaptations of the nineteenth century. Carillon tour including a trip to the tower, will be held from March to October every Thursday at 5.30 pm and Friday at 10:30.
